#12 Tod English
Chairman
and Coach
NUMBER RETIRED 2002
Tod has been a driving force in the success
of the Regals franchise for the last 20+ years both on and off the
ice.
Born and raised in Powell River, Tod went
on to play junior in Merritt (BCJHL) from 1982-83. Following junior
he returned home to join the Regals before leaving once again for
a stint in the Wilhelmshaven German Pro League from 1989 to 1991.
Tod then returned to Powell River for good to rejoin the Green and
Gold in 1992. The following year he helped the club capture their
first Coy Cup in 23 years. This continued his stellar playing career
that saw him capture many team awards and scoring titles, along
with countless league, provincial (‘AA’ and ‘AAA’)
and two Allan Cup National Championships. Tod retired at the end
of the 2001 season as the Regals all time leading scorer with 251
goals and 671 points in 339 games played (see all time scorers).
His number 12 was raised to the rafters during the 2002 Allan Cup
in Powell River and joins fellow Regal greats #3 Bob Crawford (1960-79)
and #14 Mike Andrews (1979-99) as the only members to have their
numbers retired.
But his off-ice duties began during his
playing days, with titles that included Director, Treasurer, Playing
Coach, Manager, General Manager, President and today as the Coach
and Chairman of the Regals and the Allan Cup Committee. Tod has
also been instrumental in bringing top level exhibition hockey action
to Powell River, including Canada versus Norway Men’s National
teams in 1998, Regals versus a Russian Elite team in 1999 and Team
Norway’s National Junior Team to train in preparation for
the World Junior Championships, which concluded with an exhibition
game versus Team USA in December 2005.
